yes wrt b) making a one-character fix of 3.6 to 3.5 on the ghc-7.10 branch sound like the right thing to me.

wrt a) my understanding is that for 7.10.2 we will also use llvm 3.5 as in 7.10.1

For 7.12.1 and forward we will also have one supported llvm version per release which  right now for 7.12.1 is 3.6 but could become 3.7

The plan for llvm for 7.12.1and later is given in  https://ghc.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/ImprovedLLVMBackend.

At this point we need to decide whether:

   a) Require llvm-3.6 for 7.10.2 and later.

Surely we're not going to do this.

or

   b) Revert commit 07da52ce2d in the ghc-7.10 branch and continue to use
      llvm-3.5 for the 7.10 series.

Why do we need to revert anything, can't we just make a one-character fix of 3.6 to 3.5 on the ghc-7.10 branch?
