oops .. here is the Tim Sweeney talk http://lambda-the-ultimate.org/node/1277 << The Next Mainstream Programming Languages  If I remember correctly argues that with multicores coming that current programming language paradigmns will not "cut the mustard" due to current bad parallelism models. I guess this would bring into mind Simon Peyton Jone's and Simon Marlow's STM research .
