You can probably modify my code snippet as above (replacing myConfig with whatever you actually called your xmonad config). Untested since setLayout $ XMonad.layoutHook myConfig is broken for me....

Or mod-shift-space to bring it back into sync. Probably best to just replace those two bindings with something innocuous like (return ()) --- or maybe bind both of them to toggleMasterPane.
