They do float on top, so maybe you dont want that.  

At the same time I dont think you have too much choice. A floating window can be any size. 

But if it is sunk into the grid it has to fit the grid. 

Although if it is surrounded on all 4 sides I suppose it is theoretically possible to size it.

You could also force float on the app.
