Well, what I've seen so far in [extra] on x86-64 hasn't impressed at all. Having to do without stuff like mtl is a bit crippling. As for this particular point, you'll be happy to know that Vesa did indeed push mtl to extra (it was an oversight.)
I do sympathize. I've mainly been rewriting PKGBUILDs and fixing a few source files to get things working again until the Hackage maintainers provide 6.12 compatible packages.
