I'm using yesod 0.8.1 I'm playing around with yesod examples 0.8.0.1 and I noticed a few things that send up some red flags first thing, when I try to run ajax.lhs from the top level directory src/ajax.lhs:6:3: Warning: In the use of `string' (imported from Yesod, but defined in Text.Blaze.Internal): Deprecated: "Use Blaze.Html.toHtml" src/ajax.lhs:37:18: Warning: Deprecated syntax: quasiquotes no longer need a dollar sign: $parseRoutes src/ajax.lhs:52:21: Warning: Deprecated syntax: quasiquotes no longer need a dollar sign: $hamlet src/ajax.lhs:93:17: Warning: Deprecated syntax: quasiquotes no longer need a dollar sign: $hamlet This is suggesting to me the example code hasn't caught up to the changes in yesod, which can cause confusion for n00bs like me. I'm trying to learn how to use jQuery via yesod, and when I see the html generated from the current ajax.lhs this is what comes up <!DOCTYPE html><html><head><title>Page 1</title><link rel="stylesheet" href="/static/style%2Ecss?YaQxW21D"><script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script><script src="/static/script%2Ejs?NWBIzSLG"></script></head><body><ul id="navbar"><li><a href="/page/page%2D1">Page 1</a></li><li><a href="/page/page%2D2">Page 2</a></li><li><a href="/page/page%2D3">Page 3</a></li></ul><div id="content"><h1>Page 1</h1><article>My first page</article></div></body></html> I want to draw attention to <script src="/static/script%2Ejs?NWBIzSLG"> and things like this. This is the other red flag that the example code hasn't caught up to the current state of Yesod. Am I interpreting the problem correctly? Here is what the latest example of ajax.lhs looks like. List operations

Hi, I have a question about the cost of list comprehension and map function. For example, I have a list of Double and I want to do lots of calculation on it. There are two ways to do that: 1. [x ** 3 | x <- list] 2. map (flip (**) 3) list I am wondering if the cost of using them could be very different and why. Thanks.

Project Euler wants the term number not the actual Fibonacci number. For Euler 25; What is the first term in the Fibonacci sequence to contain 1000 digits?; the following seems to work. -- For number of digits being 5 or more. fibNdigits :: Int -> Int fibNdigits nDigits = floor (((fromIntegral nDigits) - 1.0) / (logBase 10 phi)) + 2 where sq5 = sqrt 5 :: Double phi = (1 + sq5) / 2 -- -- Regards, KC

Haskell on Arm

(I hope two questions in one night is okay...) I was wondering how "doable" it would be to compile and run Haskell code on Arm. I was thinking about buying one of those tiny, inexpensive Arm PCs (there are quite a few models, apparently) and running Gentoo Linux on it. But it would be a lot cooler if I knew I would be able to run Haskell code on it as well. The GHC platforms page indicated only bare-minimum tier 2 support, and I couldn't seem to find any kind of "road map" tutorials to give me an idea what kind of challenges I would face. -- frigidcode.com theologia.indicium.us

shortcut for printing to stderr

I use a formula like this very often: hPutStrLn stderr "error message" Is there not some shortcut function in base that prints to stderr without having to pass in the handle? Obviously it is not hard to define one, but it would be neat to know if there was already one in base. (I couldn't seem to find one in the System.IO listing.) -- frigidcode.com theologia.indicium.us

Reading JSON using Text.JSON

Hello, I have this JSON string that I have put in a text file, test.json: {"coordinates": [0.0, 1.0]} using GHCi, I can read it like this: > s <- readFile "test.json" > let r = decode s :: Result JSValue > r Ok (JSObject (JSONObject {fromJSObject = [("coordinates",JSArray [JSRational False (0 % 1),JSRational False (1 % 1)])]})) I want to affect this array of two Double to the type Coordinates being defined like this: type Coordinates = (Double, Double) Using this type I can create a Node: data Node = Node Coordinates Number deriving (Eq, Ord, Show) The problem is that I have no idea what to do with decoded JSValue. It seems I have to define an instance of JSON to read it. Does this mean using pattern matching to extract the values ? What do I do with the Result type ? Should I get rid of it like this: fromResult :: Result JSValue -> JSValue fromResult (Ok js) = js fromResult _ = JSNull and work with the raw JValue ? These questions might be trivial, but I know only imperative languages, which is why I like so much to learn Haskell and functional programming, lots to learn and discover :) Many thanks in advance, Adrien

Hi Folks, Here is a recurring problem: Find the difference between what you have versus what you need Here are some examples: 1. Cooking: a recipe calls for this list of ingredients: eggs, flour, milk, chocolate. In my kitchen I have some ingredients. Is there a difference between what the recipe requires versus what I have in my kitchen? 2. Product Inventory: the inventory sheet says one thing. The actual products on the shelf says another. Is there a difference between what the inventory sheet says versus what is actually on the shelves? This recurring problem calls for a nice algorithm to solve it. I am reading a fabulous book, Pearls of Algorithm Design [1]. It describes how to solve the problem.
