Have you emailed the author of the module? Not everyone reads the beginners' list - sometimes extremely targeted questions (instead of general questions) don't get quickly answered.

From reading the text at the top of the module, I would guess it's a variation on the 'mergeBy' function, except doesn't call the passed in function as often.
