 '\65279' = '\xFEFF' = ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE = BYTE ORDER MARK, so it
 seems notepad inserts a UTF-encoded BOM at the start of the file.  Cabal
 needs to ignore BOMs.  (They're classified as format characters, not
 spaces, in Unicode.)
