Quite some time ago I tried to make the whole fptools autoconf stuff a bit more modular, but I failed for several reasons. I don't remember exactly what went wrong, but I guess it was my inability to fully comprehend the increasingly complex autoconf suite. %-] Perhaps it's time to try again, but I'm a bit reluctant to do it when a release is imminent...
