Yes, command lines are buffered and can be edited - you can even drag and drop the command text around with the mouse, access cut/copy/paste etc.
Doesn't the Haskell standard say something about line buffering with interact and getChar? Shouldn't the program be responsible for handling the backspace char? GHCi 6.4 on Windows does line buffer, GHCi 5.02 on Solaris does not.
The Report (21.6) says: For most implementations, physical files will normally be block-buffered and terminals will normally be line-buffered. Of course making hSetBuffering and hSetEcho work for WinHugs would be extra work.
