default types

nhc doesn't default types as aggressivley as it should?

I think that in module Q where Just a = if 5 == 5 then Just 6 else Nothing (which gives me ====== Errors after type inference/checking: Context for Prelude.Num needed in left hand pattern at 4:3. ) nhc should default the type of a to Integer, and ghc and hugs seem to agree. Thanks Ian

What does No default for Main.Class13 at nopos.(861,[(366,865)]) mean? The class looks like class Class13 a where class13_1 :: a -> Int class13_2 :: String followed by a nestable comment and then another class. Thanks Ian

nhc doesn't cope with funlhs -> ( funlhs ) apat {apat}

Hi This module: module Q where f :: Int -> Int -> Int (f a) b = a + b causes Fail: Need infix operator at 5:9 (5:9 being the b) but it is valid as funlhs -> ( funlhs ) apat {apat} Thanks Ian

nhc breaks when given fixity information in cdecls

With the following module: module Demo where class Class13 a where f :: a -> a infixl 9 `f` I get Fail: Need.hs:246: Non-exhaustive patterns in function needClassInst I noticed lots of warning while building nhc (one of which I'd have thought would have highlighted the existence of this bug), as well as some dangerous mixing of tabs and spaces. Would you apply patches to fix these (not that I am at all sure if/when I will have time to make them)? I think that if the builds were generally warning free then the existence of a warning may have helped detect the bug earlier. For the latter I would be changing tabs to spaces as tabs in Haskell are harder to do correctly than other languages, and looking at the source code out there people have enough trouble with languages like C.
