(5:9 being the b) but it is valid as
    funlhs -> ( funlhs ) apat {apat}
This is a known (and documented) bug in nhc98's parser.  It is not
easy to fix.
Bother. OK, it looks like I will have to switch to ghc for my main
testing then.
