PARTNERSHIP REQUEST

Union Bank Plc Nigeria I am the Manager Bill and Exchange of the Foreign Operations Department Union Bank Plc Lagos Nigeria. I am writing in respect of a foreign customer of my bank with account number: 142552004/wb/t who died in November 1997 in a plane crash. Since we got the information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release unless somebody applies for it as the next of Kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines. And since no one has come forward to claim the fund for years now, we discovered/realized that that the fund (US$12.8m) the account no: 142552004/wb/t has been abandoned. As the deceased is from your country it will enable us proceed the release of the money to you. It is therefore upon this discovery that I and two other senior officials in the department now decided to make business with you and release the money to you as the Next of Kin or relation of the deceased for safety keeping and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and we do not want this money to go back into the Federal Government Account as Unclaimed Bill. This is because the banking Law and Guidelines here stipulated that if such money remains unclaimed after five years the money would be transferred into the Banking Treasury as unclaimed fund. It is in view of this, I got your contact through the foreign trade mission after I was convinced in my mind that you/your name could be used as the next of kin to the deceased. The request of a foreigner as Next of Kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer is a foreigner and a Nigeria cannot stand as a Next of Kin to a foreigner. I agreed that US$4.5M of this money/fund will be for you for your involvement, Three Hundred Thousand Dollars will be donated to charity while the rest will be for me and my partners. So upon the conclusion of this transaction and your receipt of this fund, I and two other of my colleagues will visit your country for the disbursement. Therefore, to enable the immediate transfer/release of the fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the Bank as a relation or Next of Kin of the deceased. Upon receipt of your reply I will send to you by fax Text of the Application and the next steps to take. I will also not fail to bring to your notice that this business is hitch free and that you should not entertain any fear as the whole required arrangement as been made for the transfer/release of the fund to you. Note: This transaction is confidential/risks free. As soon as you receive this email, you should contact me at once through the above stated email address. Thanks, trusting to hear from you immediately, Yours Sincerely, MR GANI ALABI

ANN: H98 FFI Addendum 1.0, Release Candidate 13
by Manuel M T Chakravarty 06 Nov '03

Dear FFI Folks, Despite my claim that RC12 would, modulo errata, become Version 1.0 of the FFI Addendum, I like to propose another (last!) set of changes. The two changes are the following: (1) The addition of a variant of foreign finalizers that take an extra environment argument that facilitates the emulation of closures in C. This adds two functions to `ForeignPtr'. I propose to include this feature, as it has been discussed on this list before, and has only be omitted due to an oversight by me. (Thanks to Peter Gammie for pointing me to the oversight.) (2) The inclusion of John Meacham's `CWString' and `CLString' routines. However, I propose to make the localised versions (aka `CLString') the default and rename the previous (8bit-based) routines to use a `CAString' suffix, where the `A' stands for ASCII. John proposal has been favourably received on this list and it covers an important aspect of string marshalling quite flexibly with a simple interface. Hence, Release Candidate 13 of the H98 FFI Addendum 1.0 is now available from http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~chak/haskell/ffi/ Please check sections 5.5 and 6.3, which have been considerably extended. For the second time...I consider Version 1.0 of the FFI Addendum to be completed; no changes except linguistic ones and plain error corrections will be accepted anymore for this version. Cheers, Manuel PS: Both changes have already been discussed with Simon Marlow and Alastair Reid in person. -=- Changes since RC12: * Acks : Added John Meacham * 4.1.5: Bug fix courtesy of Wolfgang Thaller * 5.5 : Added `FinalizerEnvPtr', `newForeignPtrEnv', and `addForeignPtrFinalizerEnv' * 6.3 : Added John Meacham proposal for `wchar_t' support as well localised string marshalling; in particular, this adds `CWString' and `CWStringLen' as well as the `CWString' and the `CAString' family of marshalling routines. In addition, `charIsRepresentable' was added.

> I have put RC 14 at > > http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~chak/haskell/ffi/ > > including all the feedback on RC13. Please especially have > a look at Section 6.3 (Section "CString"), where some of the > wording changed. The spec is silent on how exactly a Haskell Char is translated to a CWchar, and there aren't any conversion functions ala castCharToCCHar / castCCharToChar. So presumably the expected behaviour is that the implementation does its best to translate between Unicode Char and whatever encoding the prevailing C library is using for wchar. Any sensible implementation will be using Unicode for wchar too, so the translation will be a simple no-op, but the C standard doesn't specify this. Older systems will probably have a locale-dependent encoding for wchar. The GNU C library has a slight bug in this regard, too (see previous discussion). I expect that when we implement the CWString operations for GHC we won't bother with any locale-dependent translations, so the implementation will only work on "sensible" systems. There is a fair bit that is non-obvious here, so I feel the spec ought to say something. Cheers, Simon

Please, dont mention names and I will be looking forward to your reply as you wish to help us out of this situationand. If you signify your intenssion to assist, I will not hesitate to give you my lawyer`s information. Thanks Kelvin Taylor
