Fwiw, on Ubuntu I'd rather recommend something more lightweight such as schroot or using LXC, i.e. https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxc.html#lxc-basic-usage as using such a container seems to have less SMP-scheduling overhead and memory overhead.
