I have a partially completed patch for this feature which you are
welcome to finish.
There is some discussion on the ticket about why the patch is broken
and some possible ways to fix it.

Hi,
I am trying to contribute to GHC and am a complete newbie at this.
The new contribution guide pointed me to the issues page(I was able to build the GHC from the code), and I was able to find this feature request. However it does not have any information apart from the feature information. Could someone please add more information to the issue?
