I got the following error (on Linux):

$ make /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lHSghc-boot-th-8.0.1 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [utils/ghc-pkg/dist/build/tmp/ghc-pkg] Error 1

That's exactly the issue which should be fixed in this round. Ben cited this as an issue affecting Solaris and FreeBSD and you are lucky to be able to duplicate this on Linux. Anyway, please verify that your -src.tar.xz does have following sha256 sum: b677e215cdfa22fba534b9bf7b530a056113c1f01002eae5b576e92ced9193ba I guess you are using older sources from previous round as website is notoriously known for excessive caching...
