RC2 release imminent

Hello all, Just as a quick update, the RC2 release will be soon. I plan on fixing #8736 and releasing it. #8696 will come shortly with the final release. I'll follow up when a source tarball is available, so Pali and Karel can build binaries. -- Regards, Austin Seipp, Haskell Consultant Well-Typed LLP, http://www.well-typed.com/

Just for the record :-)
For Hungarian names the order is <lastname> <firstname>,
so one would call him (casually) as Gábor or János (i.e. translated
Gabriel or John)
depending on (his) personal preference.
The funny thing is that Pali (without the accent) is a nickname for
Pál (translated: Paul).
But surely he is never called this way :-)
Keep up the good work, all!
Cheers
Gabor

Well, it does not really matter for me :-) I am aware I may confuse non-Hungarians, because I use my name in many different ways, with and without accents, I do not have a signature in my messages -- so I am fine whatever I am called until it uniquely determines me. But yeah, I am Gabor too; but apparently we have a lot of Gabors here already :-P

Hello all,
The RC2 source distribution is here:
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/7.8.1-rc2/
Please build from it directly. It matches the HEAD of the ghc-7.8
branch as of now - e9212f0edbd3fddc3836ccded10d036c01d38505
Like last time, please include a link to the bindist, and a
cryptographic hash (md5/sha1) of the tarball so I know it's OK.
Thanks!

Oh, and I'll go ahead and say: as you already probably noticed, we
have XZ file support now. Please don't feel obligated to make a .xz
binary - I will happily repackage it for you.
'make binary-dist' by default will still use a .bz2 output, which will
work just fine when you send it to me.

done this morning (within the next hour or two).

(Resending to list - Sorry Karel, Christian)
Hello all,
Unfortunately - I must ask you to build RC2 again soon. Why? Simon
swooped in and fixed two very nasty bugs last moment - one with a
memory leak for foreign exports, and a rare, subtle code generator
bug. It would be best, of course, not to throw those onto users for
the final release since they should see some stress by users first.
I'll be merging these fixes and making a new tarball soon, and I'll
update you on when the *new* srcdist is available.
Sorry, but thank you again!

Fyi (no need to mirror them on www.h.o), here are direct links to Ubuntu 12.04/x86_64 binary .deb's from my Travis-CI PPA (which are expected to be ABI compatible with later Ubuntu versions up to at least Ubuntu 13.10/x86_64): https://launchpad.net/~hvr/+archive/ghc/+files/ghc-7.8.1_7.8.1~rc2-1_amd64.d... https://launchpad.net/~hvr/+archive/ghc/+files/ghc-7.8.1-prof_7.8.1~rc2-1_am... https://launchpad.net/~hvr/+archive/ghc/+files/ghc-7.8.1-htmldocs_7.8.1~rc2-... They install into /opt/ghc/7.8.1/, therefore you just need to add /opt/ghc/7.8.1/bin into your search PATH. Cheers,

Thanks! I did a test build for Fedora Rawhide (F21 devel): http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=6579613 from the txz file (this build is without testsuite and prof). I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Jens

Hello all,
New source distributions are available here:
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/7.8.1-rc2/
Feel free to build when you get a chance at attach the hashes for the
binary dists. I'll be uploading mine as they happen.
