Hello GHCers, Thanks to the work of darchon the last blocker for the 8.0.2 release (#12479) has nearly been resolved. After the fix has been merged I'll be doing some further testing of the ghc-8.0 branch and cut a source tarball for 8.0.2-rc1 later this week. If you intend on offering a binary release for 8.0.2 it would be great if you could plan on testing the tarball promptly so we can cut 8.0.2 and move on to planning for 8.2.1. Thanks for your help and patience! Cheers, - Ben

Hi
Where are we on this? 12479 was last updated 5 days ago and it is not clear
who has the next action.
Thanks

Unfortunately The merge of #12479 took longer than expected and soon thereafter yet another terrible bug has reared its ugly head. See #12757. I'm trying to work out what to do about this today. Cheers, - Ben

Ben, I see #12757 is now fixed and closed. Great!
What's the prognosis now for a release?
Thanks,
Yitz

I'm just waiting for a release of filepath and then one more round of tests and then I should have a source release ready. This release has been a bit of a perpetual trainwreck unfortunately; one blocking bug after another. Cheers, - Ben

Hi Ben,
still a few tickets, most of them with patches, slated for the 8.0.2
milestone: https://ghc.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Status/GHC-8.0.2. Is the
plan still to merge those in?
https://ghc.haskell.org/trac/ghc/ticket/12777 is particularly important for
inline-java.
Many thanks,

There was one patch that was mistakenly in patch state which I cleared up. The 64-bit symbol table issue I have merged. The rest I was planning on punting on but if you say that #12777 I will merge it (although we first need to get it merged to master; Simon has been in paper-writing mode up until today (or rather, I think tomorrow), so you may want to try pinging him tomorrow to get a quick review. Cheers, - Ben

Ok many thanks for the heads up Ben. I'll let Facundo coordinate from here,
regarding #12777.

Hello everyone! Well, here we are, another month and another handful of bugs later but at long last I have good news to report: I just finished a set of builds on our tier 1 platforms and it seems that things are finally in reasonably good shape. I put the finishing touches on the tree today and will try to cut a source tarball for 8.0.2-rc1 tomorrow. Here's to hoping that things go more smoothly from here on out. As usual, I'd like to plan on a seven-day window between the source release and final release announcement. However, let me know if this will be too onerous and we can discuss other options. Cheers, - Ben
