even though i had sphinx html and pdf flags set to YES in my mk/build.mk file! this was quite surprising. This seems to have been a change that happened sometime after the RC3 tag...

For the record: It appears that the issue here may have been an mk/are-validating.mk file left in the tree. Cheers, - Ben
