Just to wind this up: there was a vote on the github thread about syntax, and we ended up with `123#Int8` and `123#Word64`. There were no dissenting comments, so we can declare the proposal accepted. Cheers Simon On Tue, 11 Jan 2022 at 10:28, Simon Marlow wrote:

I think we should accept the proposal, but in my opinion this might not be the best choice of syntax. It was chosen to be consistent with Rust, but it's a bit of an outlier in Haskell/GHC. I would probably choose `123#Int8` and `123#Word64`.
