It fails with: {{{ ghc: error while loading shared libraries: libgmp.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory }}} The problem is that the current Debian stable is Wheezy and it uses a newer version of libgmp. Proposed solution: Recompile on a recent Debian stable (Wheezy). This situation sounds exactly like [https://ghc.haskell.org/trac/ghc/ticket/7344 this bug] reported 17 months ago. Symptoms are 'pandoc --version' hangs and consumes memory until the process eventually dies with an OOM error. Currently I put an `error "List did not fuse"` in the code using a `RULE`, but what I’d really like to do is to put in a `staticError "List did not fuse"` that, if appearing in Core (say, after the final simplification) causes GHC to abort and print this message. (I’m tempted to use type level strings somehow to make sure that the parameter to `staticError` is not present at the value level, and also that the string is easier to obtain. The same error occurs when the type synonym is replaced with a type family (which is the case I was originally interested in) or a type constructor like `Data.Proxy`, as long as it's poly-kinded it seems. Now I got it on master branch and Luite reported the same problem on #ghc (log above is actually his).
