It is very strange. I definitely remember soon after I reported this problem, I've decided to investigate things myself, found this bug, fixed it, and built GHC successfully. And now I have no idea how could it be that way since the patch for base was made much earlier than my bug report. Probably my source repo was in an incoherent state at that time - there was a flurry of changes in GHC repo organization at that time AFAIR.
