 Can you offer an example that does not depend on `lens` with its zillions
 of dependencies?

 Usually you can just write down the types of the imports, thus:
 {{{
 preview :: <type of preview>
 preview = error "urk"
 }}}

 Also is the `UnicodeSyntax` significant.
