However not linking against `msvcrt.dll` imposes serious constraints and comes with quite a few caveats. So this isn't as simple as you might think, this would require not only GHC changes but also changing GCC's default behaviour. That said, if you have an application that does not explicitly request to use this symbol you say is missing I'd be happy to take a look at this given a repro. Also do note that there was a mixup with some crt symbols in the mingw-w64 GCC 6.2 that we bundle. This should have however resulted in linker errors and not incorrect linking.
