 Thanks for your report andrewchan; Unfortunately, as with RyanGlScott, I
 am unable to reproduce this with `+RTS -N4`, `+RTS -N1`, or under any of
 GHC's optimization levels on Debian 9 running on amd64. Having a
 standalone testcase, free of build tools, would be quite helpful.
