Comment (by simonpj):

 You start by saying "If I define ... as opposed to ...".

 But why to that?  Why not use the "as opposed to" definition:

 class Functor (f :: i -> j) where
   type Dom f :: i -> i -> *
   type Cod f :: j -> j -> *
 }}}
 Fewer parameters, no fundep, easy!
