 The following does not work currently:

 $ ./configure \
     --enable-unregisterised \
     --enable-bfd-debug \
     NM=gcc-nm \
     AR=gcc-ar \
     RANLIB=gcc-ranlib
 ...
    ar           : /usr/bin/ar
    ld           : /usr/bin/ld
    nm           : /usr/bin/nm
    objdump      : /usr/bin/objdump
    ranlib       : /usr/bin/ranlib
 }}}

 The workaround is to use
 {{{
 $ ./configure --enable-unregisterised \
               --with-nm=gcc-nm \
               --with-ar=gcc-ar \
               --with-ranlib=gcc-ranlib
 }}}

 The plan is to make it work (perhaps by using '''AC_PROG_AR'''?).
