if by "binary distribution" you mean the bindists that we have on the website, then that's not the case: The info is redetected when you install a bindist.

Sorry to reply to a closed bug, but can I get clarification that this is also the case in 7.6.3? I created a bindist from the source distribution (with `make binary-dist`?) and then did a `configure && make install` after installing binutils-gold.
