Happy 1.11 binaries for OpenBSD i386

Hi, I've finished a binary package and a port of Happy-1.11 to OpenBSD i386. The binary package (296k) can be ftp'd from: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/happy/happy-1.11.tgz This can be installed with the command (as root): pkg_add happy-1.11.tgz You can remove the package with: pkg_delete happy-1.11 If you want to see how the package was built, or just like building from source, an OpenBSD ports system "port" is also available: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/happy/happy-1.11-port.tgz Making sure you have a reasonably recent OpenBSD ports tree on the system, and a recent version of GHC installed, download the port to a convenient place and: tar xvzf happy-1.11-port.tgz cd happy then, as root: make && make install You can uninstall this with pkg_delete, as above. Note that you will need gmake to do the build. If you need GHC there is a binary package of GHC 4.08.2 available from: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/ghc/ghc-4.08.2.tgz Send any bugs or suggestions to me at <dons(a)cse.unsw.edu.au>. GHC 5.02.3 binaries for OpenBSD i386

I'm pleased make available GHC 5.02.3 binaries for OpenBSD i386. Also available is a ports tree 'port' if you want to build from source. The binary package (15M) is available from: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/ghc/ghc-5.02.3.tgz And can be installed with (as root): pkg_add ghc-5.02.3 It can be removed with (as root): pkg_delete ghc-5.02.3 If you like building from source the ports tree 'port' that built the binary package is available from: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/ghc/ghc-5.02.3-port.tgz To build the port you first need a GHC binary on the system. The 5.02.3 binary package can be used, or you could build 4.08.2 from .hc source and use that. There is a port to do this at the above URL. You will also need the Happy parser, which you can get from: ftp://ftp.cse.unsw.edu.au/pub/users/dons/happy/happy-1.11.tgz Once you have a GHC and Happy, untar the port and as root: make && make fake At this point the compiler is built, but you must remove the old GHC before you can install the new one. So: pkg_delete ghc-4.08.2 # or whatever version of GHC you used make install This takes around 170 minutes on my P3 700. Once again, any bug reports or suggestions would be welcome. It's reasonable to leave "." in the default search path, but adding an implicit root for an imported module will certainly lead to trouble - after all, we use hierarchical module names because the modules at the leaves of the tree are expected to overlap. Actually, GHC does automatically specialise for all types at which the function is called in that module, but it doesn't do it across modules. Why not? Because it compiles bottom-up, whereas the specialisation info is really top-down. Have often thought that we could spit out specialisation info into .spec files, and have some separate program to eat up all the .spec files and produce specialisation pragmas for all the modules... but never got around to it. It would produce quite a worthwhile speedup though, if anyone feels inclined to tackle it. (If anyone does, I have a good plan of action in my head.) To port to a new architecture you really need to start from an unregisterised build. As I recall, 4.08.2 also has some 64-bit incompatibilities, which might cause problems porting to sparc64. I don't want to put you off, but this *really* isn't for the faint-hearted ;-) You might want to talk to Ken Shan <ken(a)digitas.harvard.edu> who did the Alpha port recently, and there are some useful messages in the mailing list archives (use Google's "search site" facility to search haskell.org for "GHC Alpha port"). Dear GHC, Does ghci have a command of clearing out of all the currently defined values (like x set by `let x = 1') ? What about un-loading modules?
