Hallo, my question ist, how the "seq" operator is translated into the GHC-core-language? I had suspected, the core-language has a special strictness-operator, but I saw, that this is not the case. David Sabel JWGU Frankfurt

reaping fd's and flushing buffers

Sure enough, after I say that all my fd reaping issues are solved at the Haskell level, I've been bitten by issues that look like the RTS doing things behind my back wrt. reaping fd's etc. etc. Basically, while I used socketToHandle the fd's got closed prematurely, and once I eliminated all uses of it, the socket fd's appeared to leak despite attempts to explicitly close them. Also, there were some very strange goings-on with respect to attempts to flush buffers after the fd's they were being flushed to were closed. So, what are the semantics here? Bill

Well, it works here... if you say "+RTS -?" does it print the help text? Could you post the exact command lines you're using to compile/link the program, and the command line used to run it? My first experiment with Template Haskell is available for download (16KB) at: http://www.kfunigraz.ac.at/imawww/thaller/wolfgang/HOC020103.tar.bz2 HOC --- Haskell to Objective C ============================== This is a first development snapshot of HOC, an experimental Haskell binding to Apple's Objective C runtime on Mac OS X. It is intended to be used in order to access the "Cocoa" API for writing graphical user interfaces entirely in Haskell. HOC relies on Template Haskell to achieve its goals and therefore requires a prerelease GHC 5.05 (from CVS) in order to run. No additional code-generating tools are required. You can: *) create objects *) send messages *) define classes Not yet supported: *) floating-point parameters *) messages to super *) ghci (the ghci Linker doesn't currently load Objective-C object files) Other disappointments: *) Memory management of Objective C objects has to be done manually. *) You have to declare Cocoa classes, selectors and their types first, they are not predefined. Compile using sh build.sh and run by double-clicking the Test application or by typing Test.app/Contents/MacOS/Test If you double-click the Test application before compiling, the Finder will report an "unexpected error" (because the Test.app wrapper doesn't contain a binary). ------- (C) 2003 Wolfgang Thaller Permission is granted to use it for any purpose you like. MacOS X (10.2.2) standalone ghc app

I'm trying to deliver a self contained app that I developed with ghc 5.04.1 on Mac OS X (10.2.2). It all works well if ghc is installed on the machine, but on a user-machine w/o ghc, the following file is needed: HaskellSupport.framework/Versions/A/HaskellSupport The error message is: idc_Darwin can't open library: HaskellSupport.framework/Versions/A/HaskellSupport (No such file or directory, errno = 2) Trace/BPT trap Could someone explain why this is needed on OSX? It seems OS specific, for I don't have any of these issues on Windows and Linux. Any hint about how to do the linking statically on OSX would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, - Reto
