Thanks. I'm not sure I ever actually fixed it, because I wanted to fix the "real" bug. But I havn't gotten around to doing so, so I'm now compromising by making 'spaces' behave sensibly on a negative argument. Nevertheless, 'spaces' should never be called with a negative argument, so this "fix" is a hack. If anyone wants to find the Real Bug, I'd be happy. Meanwhile, at least it no longer loops. The .exe's you create with WASH (have a look at the examples) are CGI programs, so you can drop them into (say) Apache's cgi-bin. You should be able to use them with any http server that supports CGI. Using Tomcat (or some other Java-based server) is probably a waste of time (unless it supports CGI) because you're not using Java to create your web software. Apache is a reasonable choice if you can't find anything better. The Windows installation is pretty easy; you just need the courage to edit the large .conf file. If you want to integrate your programs with a Haskell http server (so you don't spawn a new process for each request - is this still what happens with Apache on Windows?) then you'll probably have to contact Peter Thiemann. Now we need a web server for haskell; we tried with Tomcat but it did not work and we do not know which one to use. case-identity

Hi, the case-identity transformation is case e of pat1 -> pat1 ===> e ... patn -> patn It's performed in SimplUtils.mkCase1. My (very special) question is: How do you ensure, that there's a case-alternative for every constructor of the type of e? Otherwise you could transform case e of {True -> True} ===> True, if e is of type Bool, but that't not correct if e is False. Maybe you add a default-alternative DEFAULT -> error ... ? Thanks, David

GHC 6.0, Mingw32 and RTS

I am trying to compile GHC for mingw32 (cygwin environment with -mno-cygwin compile option) but I've run into some trouble with some "undefined reference" errors. Can someone help me? I'm having this trouble with both version 3 and 2 of gcc, and I'm using the Windows Installer of ghc 6.0 to bootstrap from. Thanks in advance, Michael D. Adams mdmkolbe(a)yahoo.com P.S. threaded-rts

Hi all, I've had a request for --enable-threaded-rts support in the Debian packages, but I don't want to just build with it as then HOpenGL can't be used. My hope was that I could share most files and just have a different binary or something for the threaded-rts (it would be even better if a threaded-rts enabled binary could have it disabled by a +RTS flag, but I don't think this is possible?). However, various .hi, .a files and HSrts.o also seem to differ. So is the best way forward to create two completely separate packages? Thanks Ian

I followed the (brief) instructions on the website (including editing quite a few makefiles) and also: -- commented a reference to a non-existent Haskell source file in the makefile -- added some depedencies (I forget for exactly which files) to a makefile I determined what makefiles needed editing from the make error messages. If you're not familiar with make then you will struggle. Note that you need cygwin (or something that gives you make). You don't need hmake (unless you plan to use the CGIGraphics module, apparently). So after fixing some of these minor build issues, the whole thing built, and compiled the example programs. Building on Mac OS X

Dear GHC users on the Mac, I'm addressing this primarily to Wolfgang but also to anyone who has built GHC HEAD successfully on Mac OS X. I'm having difficulty doing it myself and I was just wondering if someone could put together a small set of instructions for building it. If you have a set of build scripts that would be even better. I need to know things like paths to libraries, what utilities I should have preinstalled and what versions of those, and what flags I should call configure with. Also a build.mk would be handy. Not quite sure what you mean by "case eta expansion". Eta expansion is certainly still done, but only on 'let' right-hand-sides, by SimplUtils.tryEtaExpansion.
