Ok, that was definitely my fault. I´ve built the gnu-make and tried again. After an hour of compilation ghc ended with: Reading package info from stdin... done. Expanding embedded variables... done. warning: can't find GHCi lib `HSbase.o' Saving old package config file... done. Writing new package config file... done. ../../ghc/utils/ghc-pkg/ghc-pkg-inplace -f ../../ghc/driver/package.conf --update-package <package.conf.installed Reading package info from stdin... done. Is this the one from the "old"-ghc that is used to compile the new one? This lib is availible under ./lib/ghc-6.0/HSbase.o Is there anymore I can do than just to give up?? Fail to compile ghc-6.2 on a Sun/Sparc
by Patrick Scheibe 14 Jan '04

Hi there. I tried to compile the new ghc with hopengl support on a sun workstation. uname -a SunOS userv1 5.8 Generic_108528-27 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80 The configure script seems to work. My options were: ./configure --prefix=/home/mai99dnn/built --enable-hopengl But when I did a make following error occured: make: Fatal error in reader: ./mk/boilerplate.mk, line 22: Unexpected end of line seen I don't know whats wrong. The boilerplate.mk seems to be ok for me. Any suggestions??? It's a bad idea to attach the config.log... it's too big. What file is needed to debug Cheers Patrick

overlapping instances and modules
by Iavor S. Diatchki 13 Jan '04

hello, i am a bit stuck on the following problem, which seems to be GHC related. consider the following two modules: > {-# OPTIONS -fglasgow-exts -fallow-overlapping-instances #-} > module Test where > > data T m a = T (m a) > > class C m where get :: m a > > instance C (T m) > instance C m => C (t m) > > obs :: T [] Int > obs = get > module Test1 where > > import Test > > obs' :: T [] Int > obs' = get i can load the first one (Test) without problems, but when i load the second one (Test1) a get the error: Test1.hs:6: No instance for (C []) arising from use of `get' at Test1.hs:6 In the definition of `obs'': obs' = get this seems to indicate that the second instance is being used, but i cannot figure out why. am i doing something silly here? -iavor ps: i am not on the GHC users list so please cc me if you replay there -- ================================================== | Iavor S. The consensus was to use some pre-fold like callbacks (proposed by Oleg?) as the most general solution for such problems. You may want to look into that. Feri.

POpen, opening lots of processes
by Hal Daume III 11 Jan '04

11 Jan '04

Hi, I'm using POpen to shell out to a command several hundreds or thousands of times per call (none of them simultaneous, though, this is completely serial). After running my program for a while, I get: Fail: resource exhausted Action: forkProcess Reason: Resource temporarily unavailable which basically seems to be telling me that the program hasn't been closing the old processes, even though they're definitely not in use anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get around this? Thanks! - Hal -- Hal Daume III | hdaume(a)isi.edu "Arrest this man, he talks in maths." | www.isi.edu/~hdaume

XCode and GHC on MacOs X

Hi, Could the XCode Tool from Mac Os X Panther be forced to use ghc instead of gcc ? I've found no option to do so, help says nothing about switching a compiler... Greetings Hans

Yes, threadDelay will round the interval down to the nearest multiple of the resolution, so you were effectively using threadDelay 0. This ought to be mentioned in the documentation. Cheers, Simon

Yes, it is a portable process library. Cheers, Simon

There is an outstanding proposal for a System.Process library: http://www.haskell.org/~simonmar/System.Process.html This is currently stalled because we need a non-blocking implementation of getProcessStatus (which is in the pipeline). Something akin to Tomasz's launch could also be included here. Cheers, Simon
