ghc-5.0.2 for RedHat 7.x

Hi, I am trying to install ghc-5.02 on an NFS partition for use with RedHad 7.1. The make in-place scheme with the binary tar balls (as supplied for RedHat 6.2) work very well for this. Does anyone know of such a tar ball for RedHat 7.1 or should I be building from source, or can I adapt the RPM packages to put things where I want them? Cheers, Chris

I've just added the --print-libdir option to GHC, and I'll try to sneak it into 5.02.1. Cheers, Simon

In 5.00.X you could say 'ghc-pkg --show-package=std --field=library_dirs' but now in 5.02 this just says "$libdir" because we made the package.conf file independent of the install location to solve some problems with installation on Windows. The value of $libdir (aka $topdir) is passed to GHC using the -B<dir> option, which on Unix is hardwired into the shell wrapper script 'ghc'. So we should have an option like '--print-libdir' to get at the value of $libdir, and then you can find out the locations of the actual libraries and include files by interrogating ghc-pkg. ok? I know that gtk+hs adds a -L/usr/lib option to the command line, which comes originally from gtk-config. I'm still confused by what you said about GHC not linking with the libgmp.a in /opt/ghc, and yet it still manages to link programs using arbitrary precision integers somehow. Normally GHC won't look in /usr/local/lib for libraries, so it won't even find your GMP 3 library at all. Hmm. All very mysterious. I think you'll need to send us output from ghc -v for a link that failed and one that succeeded. Cheers, Simon

ghc compiled program crashes

from time to time ghc compiled programs simply crash on my windows2000 without any meaningfull error message. I guess this has something to do with storage management (I vaguely remember having read something about errors durcing gc on this list, but did not find the corresponding posts in the archive). sven eric

Readline version

Good day folks. I've been having a bit of trouble compiling ghc5.02 from source on Solaris 2.6. The problem is that it can't find readline/readline.h which is not in a standard place since I had to compile readline myself. I've been messing around with various environment variables and configuration options, but have failed so far to communicate where this file is. I'm hoping someone can give me a suggestion. (I've reviewed the mailing list log and FAQ and have seen that readline is a problem on Solaris, but haven't seen anything that obviously is what I've been missing.) I hacked mk/config.mk to say GhcLibsWithReadline=YES, since I have libreadline.a and libtermcap.a in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH. That produced the aforementioned missing readline/readline.h. I tried CFLAGS=<blah> so that readline/readline.h should be visible but that didn't work either. One more thing, is there a particular version of readline I should be using?
