For a Haskell library, the linker will attempt to load <lib>.o, where the batch compiler would normally look for lib<lib>.a (on Unix). You can construct <lib>.o from its constituent .o files using 'ld -r': ld -r -o <lib>.o Foo.o Bar.o or you can construct it from the .a library, like so: ld -r -o <lib>.o --whole-archive lib<lib>.a > is it libHSmypackage.so? do I have to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH manually? For normal C code, you can either build a shared library or a combined .o file as above. You don't need to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH - just tell GHCi where the library lives using the package spec. Help to write program in haskell

How can I configure a ghc package for use with ghci? what file does the linker try to load, and what is expected as contents? is it libHSmypackage.so? do I have to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH manually? I'm getting relocation errors when I just collect all the object files (which works for libHSmypackage.a): ... Loading package data ... linking ... done. problems exporting haskell functions

Hello, I have tried to export haskell functions, but I haven't been able to compile anything and obtain a executable file. My program has two parts. - Haskell part: module Hex where fh :: Int -> Int foreign export "f" fh :: Int -> Int fh x = 7 - C part: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> extern int f(int x); int main( ){ int a; a = f(5); printf("%d\n",a); return 0; } I have tried to compile it using the glasgow-extensions, but it has links problems. Does anyone know if there is something wrong in my program? Does anyone know where I can find a little example program where haskell functions are exported? Thanks, J.I. García

powerpc-unknown-linux port

I'd like to try to port GHC to powerpc-unknown-linux. There seems to be only x86 HC files available for GHC 5.00.2. Would those be of any help to me?

problems compiling ghc-5.00.2 on Solaris 2.6

I am trying to build ghc-5.00.2 on one of our systems by a user request. I have successfully compiled ghc-4.08.2. Our convention is to install all third-party software is /opt/local. Ncurses is present in /opt/local/lib but the runtime linker can't find it. I could solve this problem by adding /opt/local/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH but I'd rather not do that. I prefer to compile programs in such was that they find the needed libraries on their own. I use ld's -R flag to accomplish that. However, I don't know how to do it in the case of hsc2hs-bin. Does anyone know how to build ghc in such way that the binaries can find the libaries on their own without needing to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH? Thanks. -akop

Ta much -- almost exactly what I was trying ('cept for posix sleep rather than threadDelay, and other (apparent) niceties). I'll double check this against 5.02 locally, in case there's some other oddity occurring.
