Ian, indeed ghc --version was what you expected.  Thank you for the
advice.  My build continues....
Was my 6.4.2 installed or configured improperly, so that the --version
string was wrong?
It wasn't actually 6.4.2, it was one of the nightly snapshots (from 3
weeks before the 6.4.2 release). The code was probably almost identical
to 6.4.2, though.
