Dear GHC developers, in old days I was able to download GHC from CVS. Now, it changed to darcs. I have read how to download via darcs and tried to download ghc-6.8-head. It responded with a hard to undertsand message and was hanging. I pressed Control-c. Immediately after this, there started to come e-mail messages about "returned mail", from various strange addresses. They were about 200 first day, 80 second day, 30 third, and then, they stopped, by and by, to my pleasure. This was the first case in my life of such a massive attack. I fear of this darcs. Maybe, you can put the source, for example, ghc-6.8.1-toTest-September-29.src...., and announce in this list where to download it from ? I care for this because my programs DoCon and Dumatel run (mainly) under GHC, and it is a good idea for them to comply with each new public GHC version, so, it is better to test a pre-release of GHC. sources are archived every day, for example http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/current/dist/ghc-6.5.20060227-src.tar.bz2 two notes: 1) "current" version is one currently in development (6.8.* at these days) and "stable" is last released one (6.6.* now) 2) additional libs which are not required to build GHC but shipped with it are place in the "extralibs" archives 3) you can also find built versions for main platforms so you probably don't need to build ghc yourself -- Best regards, Bulat mailto:Bulat.Ziganshin@gmail.com

Thank you. They say, 6.8.1 is going to be released. And I need to test its last candidate, starting from making from source. Now, I see there ghc-6.7, in dist/current/, and there is also 6.9. In dist/stable there is 6.8.0. And I do not find 6.8.1... So, I wonder, what to download. I suspect that ghc-6.8.0.20070928-src.tar.bz2 28-Sep-2007 15:59 6.7M is the last candidate for 6.8.1, because its date is fresh. Is it ? Thank you in advance for your help, ----------------- Serge Mechveliani mechvel@botik.ru

yes. it is named 6.8.0, not 6.8.1, in order to become "lesser" when files are sorted alphabetically (and the whole purpose of naming first official version 6.8.1 instead of 6.8 as previous, is to make room for these beta-versions) -- Best regards, Bulat mailto:Bulat.Ziganshin@gmail.com
