hackathon spin-off in berlin?

hi all, since i won't be able to make it to philly, but really wanted to attend, i thought maybe it would be fun to spread this event over two time zones? i have office space (decent internet, projector, etc.) in the heart of berlin for about five people; if more are interested, we could keep looking for something bigger. i guess you could argue that the point of hackathons is to avoid having more technology (video talks, conference lines, chat) in the way of communication, but at the same time i would like to gather some more experience with holding distributed events. i think it can be done. but before i start advertising, i would like to ask you organisers and attendees: how do you feel about the idea? would you like to link up with us if i find people to attend in berlin, or would you prefer me to stay out of your way? looking forward to reading your thoughts, cheers, matthias PS: in case that makes a difference: i'm interested in working on snap, but you should probably count me into the watch-and-learn category among the attendees.

I might go to BERLHAC if there's free cake.

The CCC Camp is going to take place on the same weekend as the hackaton, its
location is near berlin and it only happens once every 4 years.
Unfortunately i already had my plane ticket to the CCC when the hackaton was
announced :(
Maybe we could do it in CCC? Here is the list of "villages" registered for
the event:
http://events.ccc.de/camp/2011/wiki/Villages
The one called "Lazy Evaluation" seems to be the appropriate place to do
this sort of thing there...
Ideas ?

hugo, are you sure about the dates? i get: ccc camp: aug 10th - 14th hack phi: july 29th - 31st isn't that orthogonal to opening a german branch of hack? or am i confused again? if i'm right: i'm tempted to do both, but i can't commit to the ccc week-end yet. so i tend towards sticking with the original plan and offer a location on the hack phi week-end). cheers, matthias On Thu, Jun 16, 2011 at 05:40:42PM +0100, Hugo Gomes wrote:
