Hi, I’d like to start planning my ZuriHac travel and accommodation, and I’m looking for people who’d like to share a room in one of the hostels (City backpacker or Youth hostel, I’m tending to prefer the Youth Hostel. They have room for four people). Also, is there someone traveling from Germany passing through Karlsruhe, and would like me to join (either by Train, so one can start early hacking) or by car? Darcs hackers will be staying at the City backpacker: http://wiki.darcs.net/Sprints/2010-03 It looks like we have one more bed to fill in a dorm of 6 -- Eric Kow http://www.nltg.brighton.ac.uk/home/Eric.Kow PGP Key ID: 08AC04F9

Hey,
yeah sharing a room would be quite nice. But I prefer the City
backpacker. Another group from Utrecht is staying there as well and
I'd prefer sticking together a bit. Anyone else interested?
Cheers
Steve

I'm interested, also coming from Utrecht. I haven't started planning, yet, but I would be happy to share a room with anybody, anywhere. I think I'll go by train. Does the train from here go through Karlsruhe? Sean

I will go by train from Brussels and probably also stay at the City
Backpacker. It would be nice to share a dorm with Haskellers, I suppose.
Kind regards,

ok, there seems to be a relatively large number of people staying at the Backpackers. Maybe we can arrange with the hostel that they know about this conference. Then we can register individually and they can just put us together in rooms? Might be more efficient that finding groups of four ourselves. Maybe the local team can talk to them and put information about that on the wiki? The fastest connection on March 18th goes through Karlsruhe. It leaves Utrecht at 10:59 and Karlsruhe at 16:00. I, however, go by plane from Amsterdam to Basel on the way there, because I get a bit paranoid when I see the "unbekannter Auslandstarif" in the bahn.de trip planner. I realize now that this is inconsistent because I still assume the Swiss railways have a sane pricing scheme when they take me from Basel to Zuerich, but whatever. I see that the CityNightLine from Zuerich to Utrecht also passes through Karlsruhe (leaves Zuerich at 20:42, leaves Karlsruhe at 00:18). This is the train that the other Utrechters and I take home. Try booking to Zürich main station (and not some smaller S-Bahn-Station), then the Bahn can give you a price.

I’m planning to buy my tickets short term, because the cheap tickets don’t save me much and tie me to certain trains. I’ll see if I can use your train without a night train surchage (as I can stay awake so long), or maybe take an earlier train home. not sure which „the train“ is, but at least some trains go through Karlsruhe. Every ICE or EC from Germany via Basel should stop here.
