Please send us your Haskell proposal! ================================================================================ BOB Conference 2027 "What happens when we use what's best for a change?" https://bobkonf.de/2027/cfc.html Berlin, Feb 26 Call for Contributions Deadline: November 2, 2026 ================================================================================ You are actively engaged in advanced software engineering methods, solve ambitious problem with software and are open to cutting-edge innovation? Attend this conference, meet people that share your goals, and get to know the best software tools and technologies available today. We strive to offer a day full of new experiences and impressions that you can use to immediately improve your daily life as a software developer. If you share our vision and want to contribute, submit a proposal for a talk or tutorial! NOTE: The conference fee will be waived for presenters. Travel expenses will not be covered (for exceptions see "Speaker Grants"). Shepherding ----------- The program committee offers shepherding to all speakers. Shepherding provides speakers assistance with preparing their sessions. Specifically: - advice on structure and presentation - review of talk slides Speaker Grants -------------- BOB has Speaker Grants available to support speakers from groups under-represented in technology. We specifically seek women speakers, speakers of color, disabled speakers, and speakers who would not normally be able to attend the conference for financial reasons. Topics ------ We are looking for talks about best-of-breed software technology, e.g.: - functional programming - persistent data structures and databases - event-based modelling and architecture - "fancy types" (dependent types, gradual typing, linear types, ...) - formal methods for correctness and robustness - abstractions for concurrency and parallelism - metaprogramming - probabilistic programming - math and programming - controlled side effects - program synthesis - AI beyond chatbots, vibecoding, and agents - linked data - symbolic AI - next-generation IDEs - effective abstractions for data analytics - ... everything really that isn’t mainstream, but you think should be - ... including rough ideas that are worth discussing. Presenters should provide the audience with information that is practically useful for software developers. Challenges ---------- Furthermore, we seek contributions on successful approaches for solving hard problems, for example: - bias in machine-learning systems - digital transformation in difficult settings - accessibiltity - systems with critical reliability requirements - ecologically sustainable software development We're especially interested in experience reports. 13 Oct '26

Dear fellow Haskellers! The Haskell Foundation is proud to announce that the Technical Leadership Committee has officially launched! The Technical Leadership Committee is a new committee responsible for formulating a technical vision for the Haskell Foundation, and allocate resources towards achieving this vision. The committee will be proactive (rather than reactive to outside proposals) and favour action and experimentation. Our inaugural members are: - Julian Ospald (Chair) - Simon Marlow (Board Liaison) - Joshua Miller - Rodrigo Mesquita Committee members were chosen for their demonstrated technical expertise, historical community involvement, and bold vision for the future of Haskell. You can head on over to https://haskell.foundation/technical-leadership/ to learn more about the committee members, and stay tuned for news as the committee really gets going! Best, Dominik

SCAM ALERT - Recursion 2026 conference (conf.funcp.org)
by Fraser Tweedale 08 Oct '26

08 Oct '26

The Haskell Security Response Team has been alerted to an apparent scam website pretending to be the "Recursion 2026" conference (29-30 October, NYC). The registration facility appears (to me) to be closed at the moment, but it's possible they scammed some people in our community. Thanks to Cuihtlauac Alvarado for the report. The OCaml community has also been alerted[1]. [1] https://discuss.ocaml.org/t/conf-funcp-org-is-a-scam-ocaml-conference/18577 I am reproducing the substance of that announcement below, with thanks: > This site: > > https://conf.funcp.org/ > > Presents as an OCaml/Haskell/FP conference. However: > > * The event is not listed on the venue’s official schedule: > https://www.javitscenter.com/calendar > > * The funcp.org domain was registered two weeks ago, yet the > oldest blog posts are dated from April: > https://rdap.org/domain/funcp.org > > * The domain has no email routing — the contact addresses cannot > receive mail: https://mxtoolbox.com/emailhealth/funcp.org/ > > * Registration routes payment off-site to a third-party platform > (http://gomry.com) with a $149+ ticket. > > * Listed speakers or organisers don’t seem to have any track > record in our community > > * Talk’s topics don’t stand scrutiny > > * Claims to be a second edition, but I can’t find a prior edition > > If you registered, I suggest cancelling and getting your money > back. > > This has been reported to the OCaml and Haskell security teams, > the Javits Center, Google Safe Browsing, Cloudflare, dev.events > (which lists the conference), and Gomry (the payment platform). > > Thanks to @adrien, @mtelvers and @edwin, who helped disclose this. I have also posted this to discourse.haskell.org: https://discourse.haskell.org/t/scam-alert-recursion-2026-conference-conf-f… Best, Fraser

llambda
by guystorey88＠hotmail.com 28 Sep '26

28 Sep '26

Hi I started a project, currently hosted at llambda.net, for landing patches from web agents. It reflects up the compile error to the site so that the web agent can access it via a link. The underlying mechanism has two interesting components. 1. Wires, an extension to cabal projects, including an idempotency layer which can save time when agents trigger recompilations. There is also a proper extension called Gizmos, where cabal project folders are handled by a secondary checker which ensures dependencies between such bundles are solvable. There is some accompanied codegen which produces cabal.project and .cabal files in an algorithmic way, and seperates off "cog" tests, so that all of the "go-is" style main options have string tests that they can pass. "gears" percolate through the code and culminate in cog tests, which agents find very useful and can be counted to ensure large scale bypassing or "mocks" can be noticed. 2. The "forks" based lanes for landing. These are parallel lanes in which agents can operate on a moving target codebase as commits from various lanes arrive. the semantics of this are unfortunately a myriad of slop from the agents I used to cobble it together, but they pushed through all the bugs and it seems stable. It is a new style of versioning and commitment software that I would love for some support from the community in maintaining. Currently the source ships as a library in a microsoft installer so I can keep the codebase closed source. This is not the intension moving forwards, but since the project was just completed, I opted for this approach for now. Please contact me at guystorey88(a)hotmail.com and I can provide the source until I have a link to a permanent repo. Because of the unique layout it does not ship perfectly through hackage or I would have done that. I would like in the long run to see Gizmos have its own repository / package manager. Peace Guy
