Anyway, some documentation seems to be missing, which was there before I thought. Thanks... I have been 'away' from Haskell for a while and it is taking me a bit to get re-synced! Anyway, before posting here I also sent an email to Simon Marlow, and he let me know that this bug (or one very similar) was reported for Char in: http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/ticket/2746
