Implementing your suggestion would make me feel uncomfortable. Turning seq into an unsafe operations effectively places it outside the language, like unsafePerformIO isn't really part of the language (in my view, at least). But experience has made it clear that there are plenty of occasions in which we cannot really do without seq (even though its presence in the language is prominent subject of debate).
...which sounds a lot like unsafePerformIO (which *is* inside the language; it's part of the FFI addendum). The parallels are exactly why I suggested it become unsafeSeq. - -- brandon s. allbery [linux, solaris, freebsd, perl] allbery@kf8nh.com system administrator [openafs, heimdal, too many hats] allbery@ece.cmu.edu electrical and computer engineering, carnegie mellon university KF8NH -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.10 (Darwin) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkxYR/gACgkQIn7hlCsL25WE8QCgtAs+gq93pZeRsBwsis9HLSWm xeEAn2xuKLYSB4IsFlxlssL5Hf3Pxo1x =oA8A -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
