Hi A little progress report: Installing packages as administrator works fine. But now I have changed cabal's config file, so that prefix and datadir point to a user-writable directory, and that works as well. So for starting out, I guess I'm happy with my installation so far (although I haven't *used* those libraries yet, so I don't know, whether they are found in the new location -- what might I have to do there, if anything?)
