Are you running Snow Leopard? If so, you need to build GHC manually first.

I was able to install GHC on Snow Leopard using the Haskell Platform installer. All that was required was (1) to install Xcode first, and (2) to modify /usr/bin/ghc to include the flags -optc-m32 -opta-m32 -optl-m32. -- Dave Menendez <dave@zednenem.com> <http://www.eyrie.org/~zednenem/>
