I don't even want to imagine how that would obfuscate otherwise "straightforward" looking monadic code. The root problem is that monads don't capture enough information on the nature of effects, which limits composability. What's needed is something richer, which gives the compiler enough information to do all those things that make life easy for the developer, whilst maximizing the performance of the application.
