I'd say that any attempt to proselytize Haskell (or any new technology) needs to start from a clear view of one kind of application that it is particularly good for. Then, focus on building a "bridgehead" for that narrow application area.
I'm not so sure. When I go to learn a new language, I want a pretty clear idea that I'll be able to use it to solve many different types of problems. That's even more true with Haskell. It'll probably take most people more time to get up to speed with Haskell than it would take them with, say, Python or Java.
