I am with my new Ubuntu Trusty box. I have installed ghc by apt-get. Then I wanted to build ghc from git to upgrade to 7.8.3.

If you only want to install a newer ghc version on ubuntu or even multiple ghc versions at once, then I can only recommend the excellent PPA of Herbert Valerio Riedel: https://launchpad.net/~hvr/+archive/ubuntu/ghc Greetings, Daniel
