I like how easy it is to import data in R and Octave. (See [1] for a typical workflow.) Since I couldn’t find any matching library on Hackage, I cooked up my own [2] in a couple of days.
As Ian has already pointed out there is cassava for CSV and there is also http://hackage.haskell.org/package/shapefile which worked fine for me but may need a few tweaks to make it build.
