I have experienced the opposite quite a number of times. In some cases, Haskell's features (polymorphism, monads) allowed me to optimize code in a modular way, that is by adding a small amount of code (a new monad), rather than by rewriting lots of code. The resulting program had similar speed to C++ program. Best regards Tomasz
