Wow, thanks. I had a similar function (long if/then/else chain, fromJust) that I haven't been happy with, but couldn't see how to improve it. Now I have a much better idea for how to fix that function. Thanks again, John Lato

the general pattern is : replace isNothing with a case match on Nothing, replace fromJust with a case match on Just, don't be afraid to case two expressions at once.
