Definitely has a ring of truth to it...
the monadic interface gives you two operations, one to throw things into a monad thing, and one to chain two monad things together.
...and *that* is quite possibly the simplest and clearest way to explain just what a monad is. Explaning why this is useful for anything takes a little longer. ;-)
